Dear Members and Friends of UUFT,

Students and people of faith from all across Kansas will be meeting
for an important news conference on Tuesday September 25, 2007 at
3:15 PM. The news conference will be conducted outside the Kansas
Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Conference held in Topeka at
the Ramada Inn.

The students, representatives of various denominations and Wes
Jackson of the Land Institute, will be addressing the proposed coal-
fired electrical generating plants at Holcomb KS and the alternatives
that are available. I'll be there, and hope you're able to attend, too.

Governor Sebelius has stated her opposition to the plant's expansion,
which would emit over 11 million tons of pollution into the air each
year and become the biggest new source of global warming emissions in
the country. We know she will listen to the voices of young people
and people of faith and appreciate their support for a delay on a
decision on this matter for a period of six months, pending further
study of alternatives in renewable energy and economic development in
Southwestern Kansas.

Whether or not you can attend the news conference, please send
letters to Governor Sebelius urging her to delay the decision on the
Holcomb plant expansion. Address your letters to:
Governor Kathleen Sebelius
Capitol, 300 SW 10th Ave., Ste. 212S
Topeka, KS 66612-1590

Thanks,
Rev. Lisa Schwartz
