Barry Beagle, Planning Director for Shawnee County, will present a program on the Shawnee County Comprehensive Land Use Plan. In June 2016, the Shawnee County Commission hired the services of RDg Planning and Design to develop a comprehensive land use plan for the County. At present, the county has no comprehensive plan or zoning ordinances. It is the only county in the nation, where a state capital is located, that does not have such a plan. RDq completed its work in 2017 and presented its proposed plan to the Planning Commission, which approved the plan. It then went before the County Commission, which rejected the proposed plan and returned it to the Planning Commission to review and revise the plan per suggestions and questions posed by the County Commission. The Planning Commission has been in the process of revising the proposed plan since November 2017 and continues to work through that process. Mr. Beagle will discuss the contents of the original plan, the objections to it by the County Commission, and the work that the Planning Commission has been doing to revise the plan.
WHEN: June 12, 2018; doors open at 6:30 with the program at 7:00 p.m.
